Handle with Care

When your nervous system won't settle.

Hi all -

My good pal Scott is a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The moment he puts his healer hands on me, I feel my whole nervous system settle. I’ve seen him do this with my kids, with other friends, with clients. His hands feel like they have their own sensing intelligence. They know exactly where the knot is, or the pressure point, or the injury.

What adjustment do we make in our bodies when we handle something with care? When we reach for a grandparent’s shaky arm, or a baby’s soft fontanelle, or a treasured keepsake? I see it in so many different contexts, from the way my dad handles wood in his workshop, to how my friend Lynne folds open a fresh pea pod. In this week’s meditation, we find the care in our hands, let it settle us, and then spread it around.

Short and sweet today, friends. Again, let me know if this Friday timing is working for you. Appreciate everyone’s patience as my team and I get our publishing rhythm sorted out.

Love,

Jeff.

Mindfulness Meets Focusing: Exploring Somatic Practices for Trauma & Neurodivergent Minds

November 21, 2025 at 2:00:00 PM
Online via Zoom

Also, check out this free online event I’m doing on Nov 21st. Jan is my old therapist. She saved my ass when I was broke and crazy, I think back in 2008? It’s nice to see her become a big deal in the trauma world. This should be a fun conversation, the format is interesting too. Here’s their copy:

“In this live episode of Embodied Dialogues, Jan Winhall welcomes meditation teacher and author Jeff Warren for an engaging and accessible conversation about how mindfulness and Gendlin’s Felt Sense and Focusing overlap - and where they go their separate ways. Together, they explore how both practices can support neurodivergent nervous systems and offer grounded, body-based ways to recover from trauma.

Who Might Enjoy This

This live, interactive episode is for therapists, coaches, and anyone curious about somatic healing. Expect simple practices you can try right away, stories that make complex ideas feel relatable, and insights on how to meet the nervous system with compassion and curiosity.

What to Expect

You’ll experience short demonstrations and clinician-friendly cues you can bring into sessions, along with real-world examples that make theory come alive. Jan and Jeff will share insights on pacing, language, and co-regulation strategies to support healing through the body.

The final half of the show will be open for live questions and conversation—your chance to explore your own experiences, bring curiosity to your practice, and receive direct feedback. Reserve your spot to join live, participate in brief embodied practices, and be part of the Q&A.”
