I am a huge octopus and mindfulness and Jeff Warren fan so this morning’s Home Base is a triple win for me! Glad to find your post in my inbox and thank you for the imagery and the simple invitation of holding both inside and outside with intelligent, curious octopi equanimity! 🐙

Thank you for your generosity in sharing your work Jeff. I appreciate the reminder that I don’t need to try to understand the sensations or emotions, rather to just notice and sit in awareness.

I find that really challenging. Whenever I try such a practice, I never find anything. I’m sure there is a lot, I just can’t grab it. But I do realize that my mind starts to create distractions (mostly busy thoughts) because the “never finding” makes me feel so uncomfortable.

Lovely to have you back, Jeff.

Hi Daniela, thanks for this. Yeah see what I wrote above to Cookie. Sometimes it isn’t the most productive practice and also it may be that there isn’t much there. That can happen. And it can happen that there IS stuff going on, we just haven’t noticed it yet, maybe because the effort to notice is getting in the way.

That’s the mind for you! Always keeps us on our toes.

Spaciousness…love that idea and it helps me rest and sink into a softer place.

Too many things to notice...didn't expand my awareness, just caused me to be more frustrated with so much to do and so little progress: all on activities that I want to do. Made it very hard to rest! Sorry, didn't work for me, but I no less appreciate your efforts!

Love this comment Cookie! Yeah, it’s true, sometimes a meditation like this can just complicate things. I wish I had put in more notes that there may be very little going on, in which case it’s fine just to chill. Sometimes the trying to find something ends up dominating the whole session, which can be counterproductive. Different tools work for different things at different times. If you do try it again, maybe try it when you’re feeling off and you know somethings going on, but you’re not clear about it.

Thank you Jeff. Been having quite the week with lots of bouts of crankiness 🦀 and just feeling all over the place. This 9 minute sit was just what I needed tonight, sitting in my calm backyard feeling the sunset on my face. Thank you so much for putting this out there. I'm so grateful 🍏

I actually did have something kind of weighing on me before trying this and I was able to sit with it and came to a place where I realized I was not opening to all of the many options or variables. I had been thinking in an either/or type of way so this meditation helped open me up to different ways of seeing the issue.
