Part Of The Landscape + 12-Minute Meditation

A simple meditation

Hello -

Just finished a long road trip cross country, and now my family and I are on a cozy island not far from Vancouver, British Columbia. Beautiful ocean views, towering cedar trees, and for a few months, I hope, a more peaceful life.

I sat this morning, looked out over the water, and felt like I was part of the landscape. Bird, breeze, meditator. Repeat. I decided to record a short in-situ meditation about that.

Keeping it simple this week friends. Enjoy.

Love,

Jeff

A few quick notes—

  • New to Home Base? We have over 70 free guided meditations in our audio library, over 60 extended meditations, over 365 meditations on YouTube, and a growing number of community practice videos. New writing, new audio meditations, and new DNP live community practice sessions happen every week.

  • Did you find me on Calm or Happier? While the meditations I recorded for the apps live on in perpetuity, I no longer record new meditations for them. My latest work happens here; becoming a paid subscriber is the best way to support that work. I give paid scholarships to anyone who asks (email info@jeffwarren.org). THIS WEEK ON THE MIND BOD ADVENTURE POD

This week, we sit down with acclaimed poet, novelist, and memoirist Chelene Knight to talk about the practice of reading, and what it means to build a (messy, real) creative life. Chelene’s most recent book - Safekeeping: A Writer's Guided Journal for Launching a Book with Love - is part guided journal, and part treasure map through a lifelong practice of writing and teaching writing to others.

We talk about:

  • Why “there is no reading, only rereading”

  • The mistake of ignoring your instincts and how to recover.

  • Poetry as the foundation for all writing.

  • What happens when writers trust the reader enough to leave space.

Reading, in Chelene’s hands, is more than consumption. It’s a meditation, a prayer, a slow fire that lights us from within.
