Hi friends –
I’m back from vacation and have another meditation from the middle of actual real life! I guided myself in this practice on Wednesday, sitting in my car, a few minutes before going in for a small surgical procedure.
I was feeling nervous. At first I thought my nervousness was entirely body-related, as it’s never that fun to have one’s body cut open, even for a good cause. When I stopped long enough to feel into it, I realized there was more. A tentative sense of being at the edge of change and not quite sure how I felt about it. Changing body, changing world, changing identity. “I’m trying to keep up with the changes” - sings Joy Oladokun. I often play her beautiful song at the end of teaching retreats. It comforts me, gives me a sense of companionable solidarity. I hope today’s meditation can do the same for you on your own ever-changing life journey.
A reminder, this Thursday at noon EDT is our community Home Base Hangout, a mix of guided practice and sharing. My friend K asked if we could focus on how to get through this time of intense challenge and strife, particularly down in the US. “We thought it was the end of time, but we’re still holding on and we’re still trying.” Thank you, Joy. We did and we are. Change and challenge and holding on will be our themes. Details at bottom.
Much love -
Jeff
