Today we review some basics: the power of sustained attention as a way to diminish craving and aversion and thus suffering. Normally our mind pulls us in all directions, grabbing on to enticing thoughts, or pushing away from restlessness or boredom or whatever. All the endless ways we find experience unsatisfying, and so deepen our suffering. The human condition! Meditation offers an alternative, a kind of game: what if we stay? Can we stay with one thing, and get curious about what kind of craving or aversion pulls us away? Can we get past the dissatisfaction, to the peace that waits on the other side? Jeff offers an additional trick for folks with a lot of ADHD-style minds (like his): add counting and image onto sensation, so you have more to do! Meditating in this way increases the stability and power and potency of our minds. Welcome to this edition of The Do Nothing Project.
