Amazing how many times my mind drifted into planning things to do during that meditation. I will return to this one again! Especially loved the inquiry. One look around the backyard at this life machine called Earth while remembering we got to this moment from the Big Bang, it’s clear there’s nothing I did to get here in the grand scheme of things. Really, what is this??? Thank you, Jeff 😊
Jenny I am in my backyard too. And I started off ticking off the to do list in my head too. And Jeff got me too! Big sigh of relief. I don’t have to make anything happen right now.
I’ve so enjoyed these words Jeff . I totally love the doing nothingness of meditation. Yet part of me find it hard to realize that’s what I’m actually doing, meditating, even after doing so for a while now. When I listen to other teachers meditation seems to be harder. You need to do this , or that. That’s another reason I find doing nothing meditation so lovely . Just being mindful of myself! Thank you
Hi Jeff, thank you for this do nothing practice. Often when I go into a time of meditation or silence I find myself in tears over the pain in my family, my community, in the political unrest and even the wars and tumult in the world. I love how you explained that, what if that is the whole thing bringing us to a place of solidarity with others, bringing us to a place of compassion and love. So beautiful! Thank you!!
Hey Jeff! It was great to meet you at the start of the retreat, and to sit with you. Sorry I didn’t have time to stick around and talk to you afterwards. But now I have the honor of listening to your excellent meditations and saying “hey, I know that guy!” I’m looking forward to reading your reflections on the retreat - it was a rich experience for me, though, of course, not so easy. I’d love to hear your impressions as a first-time IMS-er. See you on the path!! Miv
Nice to see you here Miv! I just wrote up a few notes, it’ll be posted this Sunday. It was such a great retreat. Most of it was so simple and grounding and common sense there’s not actually much to talk about!
Thank you Jeff! Your guidance and humour and ways of putting things always help me become a bit more recentered. I appreciate your contribution very much.
I love how you describe Meditation as a place to notice our baseline to calibrate where we are...brilliant! The practice of letting go, breathing while doing nothing continues to help me in learning who I am...for this I thank you Jeff.
Much needed reminder. When I feel peaceful and not dragged down by life's difficulties, my tendency is to immediately plan 1,000 things to do now that I feel better. Good things, ya know. Get more creative, spend more time with friends, write a book, record a song. It's a challenge to take a deep breath and simply BE. Worthy pursuit, for sure.
This may have been one of the most important twenty minutes of my life. It came at a pivotal time. What is this? What is this life? What is this me, right now? Really trying to sink into those three questions with sincerity opened up a sea of emotion and feeling. Thank you, Jeff, for skillfully landing me right there when I needed it. And thank you to all for sharing these weekly experiences with me. It's really powerful to me to know that there are other beings out there, listening to these words and trying to become better at this thing called life along with me.
Thank you, Jeff. The value of the practice of nothing. Too often, I find other teachers prescribing a method they feel should be followed. Sometimes I find that interesting and occasionally helpful, but too often I question if I'm doing it "right". When I inevitably return to your calming and peaceful practices of doing nothing, it feels so good, so "right" for me.
Over my years of meditation, I often find the greatest joy and peace in the practice of….nothing. Thank you Jeff
