More recently, the fruits of meditation are around the experience of free will, with an appreciation for the many possibilities available in any moment. How do we not get overwhelmed by these many possibilities? By getting settled for one, something meditation is very helpful at. But also by aiming for our core values, how we wanna be now and in the future: loving, present, clear, strong. Whatever your thing.

They show up in fern fronds, pinecones, romanesco broccoli, the nautilus shell, and even our own blood vessels. As the up-and-out logarithmic spiral grows wider, its shape and pattern stay the same, reminding us that what we practice at the small scale sets the patterns for the entire system.

As a math teacher and meditation guide, shares this as a helpful framing for how our meditation practice relates directly to our world. Brooke gently guides us to settle in, notice, and become available to what we long for, while encouraging us to practice exactly that - because, like fractals, when we practice our longing, it spirals out and sets the pattern for our whole world. It’s math! We are romanesco broccoli.

As soon as you walk into that column of light, you sit down and don’t do anything. You’re awake, present, but now you have no agenda. You just exist, and let the whole phonetic get shit done system power down. Five minutes, 10 minutes, maybe 20 minutes. Whatever feels right on that day. Then you come back out and resume your day, a little more grounded, a little more sane. A little more perspective. A little less all up in your own business.

Thats my metaphor for a better world. Simply the understanding woven into the culture that to be at our best, we also need to slow down. A column of light in every classroom and workplace and hospital.

Another way of saying it his is: let’s not do anything right now!

We can’t seem to get rid of it. Anon, yesteryear, in former times, the empty frame of awareness would lurch into our screen during episodes of nothing happening. Then it disappeared for a while, at least for me, receding into the background. But now, all of a sudden, from out of nowhere, it’s back, and … it’s not doing anything! Will it become coagulated? Will it develop a greasy film and prevent your experience from smoothly updating? Or will awareness stay open, and experience stay slippery, available, and free? Only one way to know (by not doing anything).
